Sep 27, 2018 - Childish Gambino's This Is America tour already has new dates. The rapper had to postpone the run following a foot injury.
Well, he did make the announcement while performing that this would be the 'last Childish Gambino tour ever,' and before dropping any summer hits or even announcing the tour, Glover declared he would be retiring Childish Gambino. Is just a moniker - one that already encapsulates so many distinct identities. The disconnect between those mistakenly clumped demeanors is more evident than ever on this tour.
So maybe retiring C.G. Just means a clean slate for Donald.
Whatever it means, I wouldn't expect a man with as much creative drive as Donald Glover, Childish Gambino, Earn Marks - or whatever mask he decides to don - to stop creating anytime soon.
If you’ve ever seen an episode of NBC’s smash hit comedy Community then one would be forgiven for thinking that you’ve seen Donald Glover do what he does best. He’s a force of nature on the show, charismatic, magnetic, funny as all hell, but that’s not the only thing he does to a professional degree. No, the man’s also a rapper with a top ten selling album and two gold certified singles to his name, among many other releases and guest appearances. He’s also going to be Spider-Man in an upcoming Marvel cartoon. Clearly this man’s sheer talent is a threat and we should all be incredibly suspicious of him. At least we would be if he wasn’t so damn good at everything he does. Taking his name from a Wu-Tang Clan name generator (of course), Glover released “Sick Boi”, his first mixtape in 2008 while he was still on the writing staff for another NBC comedy hit 30 Rock (whose head writer and lead actress Tina Fey would later guest on one of his tracks) and Glover has gone from strength to strength since then.
